Ionophores ELISA

Cat. No.: 5111IONO

Salinomycin and Naracin belong to the group of polyether antibiotics (ionophores) and are fermentation products of the fungi Streptomyces albus and S. aureofaciens, respectively. The main therapeutic application of polyether antibiotics is the prevention and treatment of coccidiosis in poultry. Prior to slaughter a withdrawal period after the use of polyether antibiotics is required to minimize residues in edible tissues. Salinomycin is very toxic, and may be fetal, if swallowed, inhaled or absorbed through the skin.

The Ionophore ELISA is a competitive enzyme immunoassay for the screening and quantitative analysis of Salinomycin and Naracin in pet feed and tissue. The polyclonal antibodies raised to protein conjugated Salinomycin shows affinity with Salinomycin (200% cross-reactivity) and with Naracin (100% cross-reactivity).

The limit of detection (LOD) was determined for pet feed and tissue and was found to be 4 ng/g (tissue samples) and 20 ng/g (pet feed).
