Lincomycin ELISA

Cat. No.: 5151LIN

Lincomycin is a narrow spectrum antibiotic derived from Streptomyces lincolnensis. It is similar in structure, antibacterial spectrum and mechanism of action to macrolides and belongs to the lincosamide group which also includes pirlimycin and clindamycin. It is used in veterinary medicine to treat poultry and swine for infections with mainly gram-positive bacteria. Lincomycin in combination with neomycin and methylprednisolone is also used in dairy cattle treatment. In apiculture lincomycin is used to treat American foulbrood, an infectious disease in honey bees.
The EU has set maximum residue limits (MRLs) for lincomycin in different foods of animal origin to 50 μg/kg for fat/eggs, 100 μg/kg for muscle, 150 μg/kg for milk, 500 μg/kg for liver and 1500 μg/kg for kidney. Although in the EU no MRLs have been established for this antibiotic in honey, some countries including Belgium, Hungary, Switzerland and the United Kingdom have set Action Limits, which vary from 10-50 μg/kg.
