Gentamicin ELISA

Cat. No.: 5111GEN

Gentamicin is an aminoglycoside, that inhibits bacterial protein synthesis. Gentamicin (Garamycin ophthalmic) and other members of the aminoglycoside family of antibiotics (Amikacin, Kanamycin, Neomycin, Netilmicin, Paromomycin, Streptomycin, and Tobramycin) are well known for severe side effects and irreversible injuries. It is for this reason that aminoglycosides should be monitored in our food products. EuroProxima, therefore, developed a method for the detection of Gentamicin in milk, serum, tissue and honey samples. The antiserum used in the Gentamicin ELISA has a 25% cross-reactivity with sisomycin but no cross-reactivity (< 0.1%) with other aminoglycosides (neomycin, kanamycin, streptomycin, dihydrostreptomycin, tobramycin and amikazin). Defatted and diluted milk can be applied directly into the test with a detection limit of approximately 2 ng/ml. For honey samples a detection limit of 2.5 ng/g was calculated.
