Coccidiosis is a veterinary, parasitic disease of the intestinal tract caused by coccidian protozoa. It mainly affects poultry.

For the treatment and prevention of coccidiosis in poultry, Salinomycin and Naracin are often used. These agents belong to the group of polyether antibiotics (ionophores) and are fermentation products of the fungi Streptomyces albus and S. Aureofaciens, respectively. Prior to slaughter a withdrawal period after the use of polyether antibiotics is required to minimise residues in edible tissues.

For screening of tissue and feed for the presence of Salinomycin and Naracin, R-Biopharm Nederland offers the EuroProxima 5111IONO Ionophores ELISA. Compared to LC-MS/MS this ELISA is a cost-effective solution for the screening of a high throughput of samples. The test has been validated for pet feed and comes with a spiking solution inside the kit.

The Ionophores ELISA is produced on request by the application laboratory of R-Biopharm Nederland. This means that it is not in the regular portfolio but produced according to the specific market demands. These requirements are first discussed with our partners.
