In Anabolic Steroids:

Anabolic Steroids

Anabolic steroids are drugs which mimic the effects of the male steroids testosterone and dihydrotestosterone. They increase protein synthesis within cells, which results in the build up of cellular tissue (anabolism), especially in muscles. Anabolic steroids also have androgenic and virilizing properties, including the development and maintenance of masculine characteristics such as the growth of the vocal cords and body hair.
In 1988, the EU prohibited the use of six hormones for animal growth promotion: 17-beta oestradiol, testosterone, progesterone, zeranol, trenbolone acetate and medroxyprogesterone acetate (MPA).
